welcome to the fitdog nation community

FIT functional DOGS only

At FITDOG NATION we believe all dogs deserve to live fit and healthy lives regardless of their breed or if they are a working dog or show dog.

SUPPORTING WORKINGDOGS

We support the use of working dogs, whether it be service dogs, dogs used for legal hunting, weight pull, athletic competitions or guardian protection roles.

AGAINST BREED SPECIFIC LAWS

We stand firmly against breed specific laws. Instead we promote handler education because we know that many people are often not qualified to own a dog, especially dogs that possess high drives and high pain thresholds.

We believe that all dogs should be fit and healthy, no matter their breed, age or even if they are working dogs or show dogs. It’s the handlers / owners responsibility to ensure that their dog is at their optimum physical and psychological state. We have to remember that the modern dog evolved from the wild and its ability to move was paramount to it’s survival, only the fittest survived. Although today’s domesticated dog no longer lives in the wild its biological functions and movement patterns are still the same and they need to naturally exercise all the fundamental canine movement patterns; running, climbing, jumping, ragging and tugging and swimming. This is important to their physical and psychological well being.

Unfortunately a vast majority of dogs get very minimal exercise and very poor nutrition. An animal welfare report by the PDSA (The People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals) warns that 1 in 3 dogs in the UK are overweight or obese. The British Veterinary Association reported that over 60% of vets say obesity is the biggest health and welfare concern for UK pets and an estimated  54% of Dogs in the USA are overweight or obese based on 2016 pet population projections provided by the American Pet Products Association (APPA).

Our mission is to elevate the health and performance of dogs worldwide, whether your dog is a hardcore weight pull dog, or a family pet, your dog deserves to reach their health and performance potential! Join the movement! #fitdognation
